Tillypad XL beyond the Arctic circle

In the beginning of April in northwest Siberia, the VIS Group’s Novy Urengoy gas and chemical plant opened a second cafeteria automated with Tillypad XL. After all its facilities are completed, this plant will become Russia's largest polyethylene production centre. It is expected that the total number of employees at the station will exceed 7,000.
The gas and chemical plant takes up 600 hectares; starting in 2009, its facilities have gradually been made operational. The plant itself can be easily expanded, and there are plans to triple its polyethylene production in the near future. Each year, increases in production require more employees, and even today, the facility’s first cafeteria, which was intended for 1,500 people, can no longer meet the needs of the enterprise.
The size of this strategically important gas and chemical plant imposes strict limitations on the technology, infrastructure and equipment that can be used here. The location’s general contractor, VIS Group, expects all the equipment and technologies used at the complex to be supplied by the industry's leading companies. High standards are also set for the project’s technical teams—in this regard, location plays a significant role: The gas and chemical complex is situated beyond the Arctic circle on a closed site approximately 28 miles from Novy Urengoy, and it simply cannot be reached quickly in the event of a critical error or emergency.
This means that even the employee meal automation system must operate flawlessly and be able to swiftly process large amounts of data, which are likely to increase dramatically as the enterprise grows. Moreover, its payment system (which uses swipe cards) must take into account the many subtleties of such a specific venue: meal plans may need to be recalculated due to weather-related work interruptions or adjusted for those who work on a rotational basis. In addition, the system must be able to deal with notably higher loads during lunch hours.
The plant’s first in-house cafeteria was automated in 2013. It was designed to serve 1,500 people daily. Having had a positive experience with Tillypad XL’s customer service, accounting and stock control in the past, VIS Group, the general contractor of the project, once again chose Tillypad. The implementation was carried out by Restocreator, a company experienced in non-standard automations of high-load catering enterprises in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Now that employees have been redistributed between the two cafeterias, each one serves 800 people daily. Tillypad XL not only effortlessly manages high traffic, but is also ready to handle new obstacles: in the near future, each dining hall will serve over 1,000 people daily”.
